Travelling film project
What?
A travelling film. In the spirit of pass it on notes or whisper games, it is the intention of this project that a film is passed on by four different cities, until one film emerges. The only point of reference the teams have is the ending shot of the previous part.
Why?
It's not the primary goal of this project to create a cohesive end product. Because every team gets to see only one shot of the previous part of the film, the style of the whole film can change suddenly and strange shifts in the storyline can occur.
For whom?
All students at the NFTA in Amsterdam, the HKU in Utrecht, the AKV St. Joost in Breda/Den Bosch, and the Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam. We will assemble a crew for each of those academies.
When?
The project will take place in February, 2010. Each crew will have a week to write the script, shoot and deliver the ending shot for the next crew.
And then?
After four weeks the material of all four teams is edited and made into a whole. The result will be shown on April 4 on the Cinestud Festival in Amsterdam.
The film
You are responsible for putting together your crew. Your only restrictions are:
- The end shot of the previous team will be your starting point.
- You will be given three objects which should play a role in your part.
- You will hand in approximately five minutes of film.
The objects will be handed over to you when you receive the ending shot. With these you are free to give the film the turn that you want to give it! It will however be part of a bigger whole, so your material might end abruptly.
What you have to keep in mind is that your ending shot is a turning point in the film. This might be a change in location, or some other kind of transition. It will be the aim of the next crew to try and make a fluent connection to what you leave them with.
Schedule:
The project will start on February 1st and will end just before May. Each city has a maximum of one week to write the script, shoot and edit. We will discuss the order in which the teams shoot after we received the admissions.
